In 2025, the United States similarly denied Abbas entry, forcing him to address the United Nations via video link rather than appearing in person before the General Assembly. According to the State Department, the ban is not limited to Abbas personally but applies more broadly to PLO members and PA officials. This gives the measure a wider scope than a single targeted decision against the president alone.
